Our Photo Album

This is Shawn's second tour at Osan AFB in South Korea. Osan is located about 30 miles south of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The North Korean border is only 48 miles away. (A map of Korea: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/images/rok-map-central.jpg.) The weather is fairly cold in the winter, usually hovering around the freezing mark, although it can get colder. During the summer, it gets quite warm and muggy and they often get torrential rains.

If you want to check out the military website, it is located at: http://www.osan.af.mil/.
The weather for Osan is at: http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/47122.html.

Here are a couple of other pages about Osan that I found (Some of the information may be a bit out of date, but they're still interesting!):

Shawn has joined his shop's dart league team and is the captain of the team.  They are doing quite well.  The team name is called "Brixhouse" - the name of their home bar is called "Brix".  There are 4 people on his team and they are doing very well. They are in the Middle 2 Division and are currently the top team in the league. You can keep an eye on their standings at this website: http://www.ssdarts.com/sda/stats/stats.htm.  This link will bring you to the team standings, but to see the individual player standings, click on the M2DIV tab at the bottom of the web page.

He had been playing volleyball, but decided that interfered with his raquetball playing.  Since he felt he got more exercise with raquetball, he chose to keep playing that instead.  Maybe I should have encouraged him to stick with the volleyball since he seems to be going through raquets too often!  Hehe...

The weather has been turning to spring at Osan and Shawn got a chance to go play a round of golf a couple weekends ago.  He had been invited, but the others decided not to show.  He played with a Korean general.  Shawn didn't play as well as he would have liked, although he did get one birdie (I won't say what his final score was, though). He has to keep in mind that he hadn't played in a long time, so hopefully, he'll have more time to play more often.

Right now, he is on an exercise and will be switching from day shift to night shift for the next week.  I'm not sure what he will be doing during the exercise, but I can almost bet he will be happy when it's over! Haha.

Well, that's all I have to update for now. Hopefully, we'll be able to update again soon!

Shawn arrived around 9:30pm, Korean time, on December 2, 2005. He had to stay off base in a hotel for a couple nights, but has just changed to billeting which has been booked until sometime next week for him. Then he can finally move into a dorm room, receive the shipment of his personal goods from California, and try to normalize his life in Korea.

He is feeling the separation from family this time more than last time he went to Korea. If you want to email him, we've set up a personal email for him to check at shawn@pixelpotamus.com. I know he would love to hear from you!

When he was feeling the cold cold when he first got to Korea. It had snowed about an inch and it has stuck around because the temperature dropped to about 15°F (-9°C) shortly after. (He said it snowed a little bit again the other night.) It hasn't really warmed up, so he is still freezing his butt off.  Especially during PT - his commander is a stickler for PT and has his squadron running outside while everyone else on the base (even the army guys) are all running on the indoor track!

Shawn's squadron at Osan AFB is 607 ACOMS. The building he works in has been built into a hill and his work deals with communcations on base. He will mostly be concerned with the management and training of people in the squadron. Although he does prefer to do hands on work, I'm sure he will learn a lot this year at Osan.

His squadron also has a dart team, which he will most likely join. He has already played against a couple people from his work - he lost one game to a female coworker, but won a game against the shop's best player. He may have a future there!

Shawn seems to have been bitten by a luck bug or something! A couple of times, he's gone to play the slot machines at a couple clubs and has won a few hundred dollars so far! Not bad for a couple dollars investment. I just hope he doesn't get addicted, hehe.

When he's not out winning at the slots, he spends his time reading books, playing his PSP - Dynasty Warriors, or playing Aardwolf, which is an online game where we first met.

Well, I suppose that's all the updates for now. If you have any questions, feel free to email him or me (family@pixelpotamus.com).

I will do my best to update this page whenever he gives me new information.
